Family Physician and Sleep Specialist
Dr. Hussain has been a practicing physician
for over 25 years and specialized in sleep medicine since 1992.
He co-authored books and several authoritative articles on sleep
disorders. As the Medical Director of the Tri-Hospital Sleep Laboratory
West, he is also actively involved with other sleep laboratories
and an assessor for the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario.
He is on staff at the Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga and Toronto
(Western) Hospital. This list of professional activities is augmented
by his ongoing commitment to the global medical profession and his
involvement in the community. Dr. Hussain is not only a vastly experienced
physician but he is also one of Canada’s leading sleep specialists.
He is a Neuropsychiatrist who obtained his medical degree and clinical
training from the University of Zambia in 1984. He obtained his
fellowship training in Psychiatry at various teaching hospitals
under the University of Toronto between 1992 and 1995. He received
his post-graduate training in Neuropsychiatry, Community Psychiatry
and Sleep Medicine from the Toronto Western Hospital between 1996
and 1998. He has extensive clinical and academic experiences in
Neuropsychiatry and Sleep Medicine over the years and is actively
involved in post-graduate teaching, scientific presentations and
publications. Since 1998, he is the Director of Acquired Brain Injury
Clinic at Toronto Western Hospital. He is also a consultant of the
Sleep and Alertness Clinic at the Toronto Western Hospital. He is
also an assistant professor at the University of Toronto. He joined
the Tri Hospital Sleep Laboratory West in 2003 as a consultant.

Lisan Hossain, PhD, MBBS, RPSGT
Dr. Hossain
has been associated with the Tri-Hospital Sleep Laboratory West
since 2001. He oversees all essential parameters of care and responsible
for overall operation and management of the sleep laboratory. Dr.
Hossain received his Ph.D. degree in Sleep Medicine from the Institute
of Medical Sciences, University of Toronto in 2004. He also has
a bachelor degree in medical sciences and a board certified polysomnographic
technologist He has over ten years of experience in technical, clinical
and research aspects of Sleep Medicine. His research interest encompasses
sleep disorders, shift-work, fatigue, sleepiness and circadian rhythm.
He has a number of publications in sleep medicine research, particularly
in shift-work.
